AIOvsSEO is a research and reference project about the shift from search engine optimization to AI optimization — the discipline of getting found, trusted, and cited by AI agents and search engines alike.
We started from one observation: the question "how do I rank on Google?" is being quietly replaced by "when someone asks an AI about my category, does it reach for me?" Those are different questions with overlapping but distinct answers. Most advice online still conflates them. We try not to.
What we cover
- SEO vs AIO — how the two optimization games relate, overlap and diverge.
- GEO and AEO — being the source generative engines summarize, and the answer they give.
- Backlinks & entity authority — what survives the move from link graph to mention graph.
- Metadata & structured data — what models actually read, and the schema myths worth retiring.
- Brand chatbots & prompts — owning the AI surface you control.
- The web economy — what the click economy becomes when agents read instead of users clicking.
Our method
Every guide is written to be useful to a human and quotable by a machine: a direct answer up top, clear structure, dated and sourced statistics, and complete self-contained sections. Where we cite figures, we name the source and the year. Where the evidence is uncertain — as with how much any single tactic moves AI citations — we say so rather than sell certainty.
Editorial stance
We are deliberately skeptical of AIO hype. Two examples: schema markup is widely sold as an AI-citation hack, and the data says its effect is within noise. "SEO is dead" makes a good headline, and the truth is that its fundamentals quietly power the new layer too. We'd rather be right than loud.
